Pioneer Innovator (Exploratory Pre-Seed's successor)

The Pioneer Innovator Grant seeks to support research within Life Science (medtech, industrial biotech, or pharma) and to stimulate the evaluation of ideas that may lead to the development of new medical treatment, disease prevention, diagnostic methods as well as new health technologies and devices to benefit people and society.

For the Pioneer Innovator Grant the applicants can be faculty members, researchers and students based at universities, hospitals and other knowledge institutions in the Nordic countries. Projects from incubator development programs are also eligible.

Distinguished Innovator
- Novo Nordisk Fonden

The purpose of the Distinguished Innovator Grant is to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship by allowing for innovative researchers in Life Science to explore the commercial potential of a discovery while they remain embedded in academia.

In contrast to other more short-term grants, the Distinguished Innovator Grant will provide the grantee with the long-term resources needed to test and mature discoveries throughout a full innovation lifecycle: from idea generation and discovery, through the exploration of the problem-solution space, to lead-candidate optimization and selection or prototyping. A particular focus for the Distinguished Innovator Grant is to provide the support needed to succeed with the project maturation, i.e. support from experts within legal counsel, entrepreneurship and innovation.

BII VentureLab

The VentureLab programme is designed to help newly established start-ups in the early phases. The program will combine business acceleration, scientific development and team developmen.

BII Venture Lab is for companies who have yet to conduct the critical experiments, make a business plan and set a team that will allow them to apply for programs such as BII’s Creation House. For 12 months, the BII Venture Lab teams will relocate to BII’s offices and labs in Copenhagen and work with three dedicated anchors on the three program pillars: Science, business and team.

As of January 2020, BioInnovation Institute has entered a collaboration with The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) to create a unique interdisciplinary environment focused on commercialization that can foster novel ideas and lead to new spin-outs.

Each project will be granted DKK 6M per year starting in 2020 and BII is committed to supporting the projects through to the end of 2022. BII expects to accept 5-6 projects in BII Faculty in 2020.
